Method 7 – Join Toastmasters
International
Welcome to our seventh and final method for
ridding yourself of the fear of
public speaking – joining
Toastmasters international. This really is an absolute
requirement for any serious public speaker, or any person that
is serious about
wanting to get into the field of public speaking. The price that
you pay for a
Toastmasters membership will be well worth the cost in terms of
the vast
improvement that you will make in your ability to speak in
public.
Toastmasters International is an organization designed to help
people all
over the world improve their public speaking abilities. Because
there are so many
people all over the world interested in being able to speak well
in public, there are
many local chapters available in a number of countries around
the world. Each
local chapter designates its own meeting days and times, so
chances are, you will
be able to find a Toastmasters meeting that fits your schedule.
At a typical Toastmasters meeting, several of the attendees will
be able to
speak in front of the group for a few minutes, and then receive
constructive,
gentle feedback from the other attendees. In turn, you will be
able to provide
constructive feedback for other attendees as well.
This can be a real benefit to you, because you won’t have to
rely on actual
audience members (who will be less forgiving), or friends and
family (who will
probably tell you that you are giving a great speech, no matter
how you do) to
give you feedback about your speech. Instead, you will be
receiving feedback
from people who know what it is like to speak in front of a
group, and to struggle
to overcome the fears of speaking in public.
